PLANNING FOR OUR FUTURE --- HAWAII COUNTY GENERAL PLAN UPDATE
*** REVISED DRAFT RELEASED TODAY ***
www.hawaii-county.com/general_plan_rev/main.htm

Many complain there is "no planning" for their community. Fortunately, we now have an opportunity to plan for and help guide our future.

The Hawaii County General Plan is in a revision process. Last year the County conducted workshops on the General Plan revision process and circulated a draft plan. The feedback from those workshops was incorporated into a revised draft.
The revised draft was released today and can be reviewed at:
www.hawaii-county.com/general_plan_rev/main.htm .
In February the Planning Department will conduct additional public
workshops to consider the revised draft.
The General Plan is not simply "A" land use plan, it is "THE" planning document that guides future growth in Hawaii County. It is the basis and foundation for all other County plans. All subsequent community development plans, zoning and related ordinances are guided by the General Plan.
The General Plan is the policy document for the long-range comprehensive development of the island of Hawaii. It provides the direction for the future growth of our County.
The General Plan brings into focus the relationship between residents and their pursuits and institutions, offering policy statements which embody the expressed goals for present and future generations.
As a policy document, the General Plan provides the legal basis for all subdivision, zoning and related ordinances. It also provides the legal basis for the initiation and authorization for all public improvements and projects.
Please join us in planning for our future. Please participate in the General Plan revision process. Here is the schedule for General Plan Workshops.
(All meetings start at 7 pm):
Hilo; Feb. 5; County Council Room
North Kona; Feb. 7; Kealakehe High School Cafeteria
Puna; Feb. 8; Keaau Elementary School Cafeteria
Hamakua; Feb. 12; Honokaa High School Cafeteria
South Kona; Feb. 14; Konawaena Elementary School Cafeteria
North Kohala; Feb 20; Kohala High School Cafeteria
South Kohala: Feb 26; Waimea Elementary School Cafeteria
Kau; Feb. 27; Naalehu Elementary School Cafeteria

After this series of Workshops, the Planning Department will prepare a revised draft and submit it to the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission will then conduct a series of Public Hearings. Following the Planning Commission hearings, the revised draft will be sent the County Council for further hearings and action.
