Garden Management Committee

 

1.     A Garden Management Committee shall consist of three persons and shall be selected by the Project Supervisor. Members shall include the Project Supervisor, one other staff member, and one member of the Garden Committee, or a member of the Board of Directors of Na Po’e Hoa ‘Aina.

 

2.     The Garden Management Committee will meet as necessary. All members shall be notified of each meeting.

 

3.     Decisions of the Garden Management Committee shall be made by majority vote.

 

4.     The Garden Management Committee will consider and resolve complaints against gardeners who have broken or violated tules or standards.

 

5.     A verbal warning will be given by the Garden Coordinator, or her designated representative, describing the infringement of rules and suggesting a course of action.

 

6.     If the infraction continues, a written notice will be issued to the gardener describing the infraction and outlining an immediate solution.

 

7.     The notice will be handed or mailed to the gardener.

 

8.     Unless there is a response from the gardener within seven to ten days, the gardener will be notified in writing that s/he must vacate his or her plot.

 

9.     The gardener will be given seven to 10 additional days to vacate.

 

10. The notice to vacate will be posted on the garden bulletin board.

 

11. Chairman of the Garden Management Committee will keep copies of all notices, documentation and minutes of all meetings of the committee.

 

 

 

 

Laulima Puna Garden Rules

 

1.     Garden hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, or by arrangement with the appropriate project coordinator.

2.     All gardeners and visitors will vacate the garden before dark.

3.     Zero pets in the garden.

4.     Parents and caretakers will closely supervise youth under 16 years of age.

5.     Due to health and safety issues, the aquaculture project is off limits to gardeners and staff unless special permission is obtained.

6.     Unless you have special permission, please water or enter only the garden    plot which is assigned to you.

6.     Smoking in designated areas only. Use containers for remainders.

7.     Laulima Puna Garden is a drug and alcohol free area.

8.     Notify the Garden Coordinator or other staff member if you will be absent for more than five days and designate a caretaker for your garden.

9.     Read and abide by all notices posted on the bulletin board.

10. Complaints or infractions of rules shall be reported to Garden Coordinator Garden Management Committee.

 

11.    Standards for Gardening

 

1.     Only organic fertilizers and herbicides are allowed in the garden. If you have questions check with Garden Coordinator BEFORE applying.

2.     Only legal plants may be cultivated in the garden.

3.     Keep a space of six inches around the edges of your plot.

4.     Be responsible for minimizing drainage from your plot to other areas.

5.     Conserve water.

6.     Turn rakes, hoes, etc. with sharp edges to the ground.

7.     Keep the path adjacent to your plot level, free of weeds, tools and debris.

8.     Add materials, gravel, rocks only after checking with Coordinators.

9.     Plots should be fully planted. Pull weeds and diseased plants ASAP.

10. Keep plantings inside the boundaries of your plot.

11. Poles and trellises should be simple and functional.

12. All gardeners are required to spend at least four hours per month on   common areas, clearing paths, composting, weedeating, recycling.

13. Garden meetings will be held periodically. If you cannot attend, read the information on the bulletin board and sign to show you have read it.

I, the undersigned, hereby agree to all of the above, and waive all responsibility on the part of Na Po’e Hoa ‘Aina, for property damage and/or bodily injury which may be sustained by participating in the above activity.
